I don’t think that the new Macbook Pro is a good laptop for designers, because of that glossy screen.

well… what laptop means ? Portability right? In an brightless ambient (i.e. outside our home) the screen reflects too much. I’ve seen one in action, and i will not spend $2000 on a mirror.

But i’m an apple fan, so i decided to go for a 24′ iMac instead, just because the laptop doesn’t bring me mobility.

Thogh I am not a huge fan of the MBP glossy screen I have found tht even in bright rooms it does amazingly well due to it’s bright LED display. Even my matte finished iBook has some problems too in bright rooms. Probably more so than the MBP. There are matte and glossy screen protectors that you can add to either system depending on your preference. After all anyone using a laptop without a screen protector is just asking for scratches.

In my opinion, a laptop should never replace a desktop for a designer. Laptops are pretty powerful and I tried to go that route, but in the end I had to go back to a MacPro tower for the computing power. I keep several laptops for travel or location work. But thats it.
