Firefox Addons

Firefox Addons

Who here uses Firefox? Well I do for sure, with being a web designer/developer I realise that Firefox is more standards compliant than Internet Explorer, so with that in mind, I can’t help but use firefox on a full time basis.  Another huge factor in using Firefox is the number of addons, below I have compiled a list of my must have Firefox addons.

Fire FTP - Secure FTP client, allowing you to upload files to your website with ease.

L.O.R.I - Life of Request Info - L.O.R.I as it is known tells you how long the current page you are on takes to load, this helps developers optimise speed times.

Adblock Plus - Gets rid of all the nasty popup advertising, meaning quicker to browsing on the website.

ColorZilla - You like a colour on a website? then this addon allows you to pick that color and covert it to HEX or RGB format.

IE Tab - Why use Internet Explorer? when you can use it in firefox, great for web developers to check there functioning website.

Measure It - Measures to see how big an element is on the screen.

Screen Grab - Takes screenshots of the whole website, instead of just the visable frame, it gets rid of the toolbars, buttons and cursors, showing great screenshots in PNG and JPG format.

HTML Validator - Tells you how HTML errors, if any.

And finally, I could not forget, the number one used firefox addon I use and swear by is:

Web Developer - Adds a menu and toolbar with a number of web development tools, such as view the CSS code.

There are many firefox addons that are getting added daily, many I haven’t even tried or heard of, but for the full list of all the firefox addons, then visit there website.

Ok, you have heard my list which I use in my day to day webdesigning, now tell me, what firefox addons do you use?

I use most of these but for web development you should add ColorZilla, FireBug and DT Whois to your toolbox.

I actually prefer Fireshot (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648) for screenshots and it allows for quick comments, cropping, etc. Really powerful.

    missing firebug in this list…

Firebug integrates with Firefox to and enbales web development tools while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.

I use most of these and more! Interestingly, I’ve never tried Firebug, but I’ve been planning to for some time now. Seems the time is right..

@Stephen Cronin, I Definately would use Firebug, it is an essential tool for me.

  1. Firebug, of course, but also want to stress the convenience of ietab. I use it all of the time.

I know, I agree, IE Tab is one of my most frequent addons used, its a great addition.

  1. LoungeKatNo Gravatar Says:

You should add PDF Download to that list, I made the icons ;)

Apart from that it’s really useful.

  1. adminNo Gravatar Says:

Well I can’t say I have heard of that one, I will go check it out now.

    Thanks for the tip ;)

The IE Tab seems like a good add-on, but what version of IE does it render? IE6/7 (and soon IE8)? Is there a way to switch between IE versions that I am missing?

I prefer using MultipleIE (http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE) so that I know exactly what version of IE I am viewing my work through.

Nice list of addons. I downloaded screen grab and measure it. These will definitely come in handy in my line of work. Thanks for the great resource!

Two of the most useful for me are Noscript, Snap Links, Foxmarks and the Compete.com toolbar.

But I personally have like 30 installed other faves are Link Diagnosis, Faviconize Tab, InFormEnter, Hyperwords and many more. my name should be “add on addict”
